Which DAC and is it capable of native DSD or DoP only?

Roon on Win 10 to Playback Designs Merlot DAC.  The PBD Merlot works with Native DSD and DoP.  Using AK Drivers from Playback Designs website.  When I play back on Audioquest Cobalt from laptop using Roon, no issue.  Of course it’s down sampled, so it’s not a fair comparison.  On my Denafrips Pontus II in DSD mode, no issue.  It’s a bummer cause the PBD Merlot is incredible with files I’ve downloaded from NativeDSD website.

Have you disabled the software volume control?

The fact the same files play fine using 2x other methods suggest the file rips are likely ok.

It is strange that DSD files purchased on-line play fine but your ripped versions don't.

If you have not already done so, perhaps check if there's a firmware update for the Merlot or windows driver update.
