Mac OS Sonoma...

Do you think that Sonoma benefits HQPlayer in any way?  I assume HQPlayer does not support Game Mode?

no, I don't think that. I also don't think it magically performs any better or sounds any better. It sounds just as great as it did before and performs the same as it did before.

I asked my question re Game Mode, because I was wondering (perhaps hoping) if it is possible that the performance of the Apple Silicon chips are "restricted" by the OS ??  Fanciful thinking?  So, I was hoping that, maybe, the Game Mode could realise the full potential?  For me, at least, the only advantage of Silicon over Intel is "quiet fans".  Otherwise it is Intel or AMD every time.

I know, I see you mention game mode around the website and truthfully, I don't know why. HQP is not a game. If there are any benefits it will come from the experience of Apple programming and finding efficiencies in the code, and Jussi doing the same as he gains experience programming for Apple Silicon, not Game Mode fairy dust magic which is likely just CPU scheduling priority.

If you're that worried about it, run HQP Embedded on a stripped down Ubuntu server install, or Jussi's own HQP OS. IMO it sounds the best. My listening is done with a machine running HQP Embedded on a dedicated machine running Ubuntu server so it can run CUDA on an Nvidia GPU.

Technically game mode could help, but I don’t know if it’ll matter.

Game Mode automatically prioritizes the performance of your game for smoother, more consistent frame rates and improved in-game responsiveness.

Game Mode optimizes your gaming experience by giving your game the highest priority access to your CPU and GPU, lowering usage for background tasks. And it doubles the Bluetooth sampling rate, which reduces input latency and audio latency for wireless accessories like game controllers and AirPods.

I usually wait at least 6 months but my only Sonoma-able machine is a music server so I might give it a go. I prefer to go for a clean install which is a lot of hassle, particularly when you're running a headless computer.

Looking at the novelties: Screen Savers (don't use), Widgets on Desktop (don't use), Video Conferencing (use Zoom), React with your hands (WTH), New Screen Sharing picker (), Stay in frame (...), Safari and Passwords (use Firefox), Web apps come to your Dock (pff). Messages, Stickers, Gaming, an upgrade for teenagers?

An accurate autocorrect would be helpful (on my phone).

I'm still running High Sierra in my work desktop and laptop...
