PhilR
Thanks Tranz, will check that out. Most of the electronica I listen to nowadays is mellow deep house (comes with getting old). This mix is a great example for anyone wanting to get their feet wet. Lots of atmospheric & deep sounds, great production details too. Perfect for inoffensive background music that will still keep you moving: This has plenty of jazzy & smooth beats without moving into smooth jazz territory. I find this particular style of deep/tech house to be more musical and listenable than most of the generic EDM in mass production today. Yucca06
Agreed. This is one of my go-to ambient journeys: Same here. You can add Spyra and Lorenzo Montana, who worked also with Namlook. The Labyrinth series (with Montana) is awesome : Roon / audio-linux / dual PC / I2s FGPA Dac / analog tube processor / analog tube crossover / active speakers / dual subs / absorption+massive diffusion / ugly cat in the room Link to comment

crenca
In the past year Tycho caught my attention, I keep coming back to him even though I am mostly a Jazz/Classical guy. Particularly nice in car or other noisy environment that is not conducive to dynamic music. I even purchased Daft Punk's "Random Access" album a couple of weeks ago in high res, though it is the only EDM album I actually own (the kids and wife really liked the neo-disco dance tunes so I got it for them ). I have a few others bookmarked in Tidal, and now with this thread I have more to explore. Any one recommend something along the lines of Tycho? I have not really found anything all that similar, even the usual that folks seem to point to (such as Boards of Canada)... Hey MQA, if it is not all $voodoo$, show us the math! Link to comment
solrighal
If you like Tycho there's a fair chance you'll also like Trentemøller. Link to comment

I have not really found anything all that similar, even the usual that folks seem to point to (such as Boards of Canada)... There is a radio station that plays eclectic chill 24/7 KCRW Eclectic24 It can be found for free on e.g. the TuneIn Radio app. Great source for tunes in a similar genre. Another way is setup a Tycho channel on Pandora and check out the similar producers. Link to comment
crenca
Thanks for the recommendation guys, but I am afraid Trentemoller does not have the same (is it a pop music sensibility?) melodic aspect that Tycho does (for me). Solrighal, I listened to all the artists you listed 7 months or so ago and I bookmarked Recondite. This artist has an interesting rhythmic sensibility and complexity and a variety of tone that reminds me of something I normally find only in Jazz - though his melodic sense is not the same as Tycho's and is more "flat" like most EDM I pass over. Thanks guys! Hey MQA, if it is not all $voodoo$, show us the math! Link to comment
crenca
I was listening to some eletronica a few days and said to myself "boy, this sound could really benefit from just a touch of a cool {Miles Davis sound} trumpet or some other jazz melodicism". I found this today: TIDAL Dave Douglas is a Jazz trumpeter who normally does a post-bop, avant garde sound that I am not all that into, but here he brings his trumpet into a electronic band. It has an appeal. He also just released a follow up album that is not on Tidal yet. Perhaps an Electronica/Jazz fusion is a real thing? At least Douglas is doing a bit of it... edit: A youtube of a snippet of the new album: Hey MQA, if it is not all $voodoo$, show us the math! Link to comment

You might want to check out something like St. Germain, or the Saint-Germain-Des-Prés Café series. A little modern trumpeter/EDM combo that I love is this song by Armin with Eric Vloeimans on trumpet, called Embrace. Link to comment

Lightstream
Nice Thread. Boris Blank is one of YELLO's protagonists and is certainly worth to be mentioned here. As a solo artist and composer he published not only some excellent instrumental albums, but also made an outstanding recording with Malia, a jazz singer born in Malawi. The album from 2014 is called "Convergence" and the Song "Raising Venus" is inherent part of my "Best of Sound" tracklist. I especially like the James-Bond-like part at 0:52 min.
