I'm using HQplayer for digital attenuation going straight into my power amplifier.

Amplifier is a Hypex Ncx500…Speakers are Buchardt S400 mk2

out of interest: how much attenuation do you have to apply in HQPs volume control to reach moderate listening levels like 60-70 dBA?

It also depends on the power amp you use - i.e. gain settings with the power amp... and some tracks are recorded louder than others...

With the Cyan 2 XLR directly to my Nuprime Evolution STA power amp, I would be at about -13db in HQP volume to reach about 85dBA

Playing Pearl Jam Daughter(when the song gets into it) I hit an average of 68 dB at -36dB on HQplayer. That's in my fairly damped listening space, and 10 foot away listening position.

I normally run a convolution filter.... But this is without. Plenty of headroom.

Is there any degradation of sound quality using that degree of attenuation?

Well that's a can of worms. Let's just say, I think it still sounds great.... But I don't have a pre-amplifier to compare that against. Apparently, technically speaking with HQplayer... There is no degration in sound quality anywhere near that attenuation level.
