  2. After doing an SPL measurement with the mobile phone, these are the results.
  3. Today
  4. I've been reading Nick Drake's recently published biography. Such a sad story, it's been affecting my mood. So many people who are suffering from metal illness get lost through the net... We still have a long way to go as a cohesive, caring society. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nick-Drake-Richard-Morton-Jack/dp/1529308089/
  5. As explained by Mops911, every user has a different experience. From my experience, there is a difference between Linux and Windows in that the Windows optimised solutions are just stripped from unnecessary services while in the Linux solutions, a work of optimisation has been done to reduce kernel latency, which is important for accurate music reproduction. Also you did not precise your use case. Are you expecting a Wysiwyg solution ? Do you like to spend time in computer optimisation yourself ? What player are you using ? In case you are aiming at HPQlayer, using a Windows optimizer might deprive you from HQPlayer's support, as the conditions for this support are plain vanilla Windows installations. If you are aiming at using HQPlayer alone, Jussy has done a very good job at optimising his distribution of Linux and optimising his kernel. This is easy to use and install. If you are aiming at larger use cases, you will get support from the Linux distribution editor (GentooPlayer or AudioLinux). I personally have a good experience with the kernels of AudioLinux which are offering a pretty good latency. Since version 6.12 of the kernel (which still is in development), the real time patches of the kernel have been merged into the mainstream kernel. So you can also optimise the kernel yourself easily in case you like to dig deeper yourself. In short, I have a preference for the Linux solutions as they seem more optimised to me. From Jussi's to Audiolinux or your own is a choice of your personal implication.
  6. Today I was able to make a couple more measurements, this time I calibrated before the sound card (Steinberg UR22). Everything seems coherent except the waterfall graph, is it possible that it is that bad? or is it a measurement problem? I have not been able to do an SPL calibration.
  7. Thank you @stefano_mbp. Mine doesn't show bit rate anywhere. Hmmm? Anything I should check in the app. I'll have to play with it more tomorrow, after I fire up the system. Time to go to bed...1:25 AM here. Haha
  8. Quite strange … with Minimserver the bit rate is almost everywhere, the previous screenshot was from Now Playing but it is shown in album details too and in filter (Focus) section
  9. Thanks. That said, mine doesn't show the bit rate like you pointed out. Mine is just "HI-RES". Interesting. Oh...I'm running Tidal, if that matters.
  10. The Dutch Audio Event 2024 will open its doors today! For those who are interested (and are hopefully able to attent), Grimm will play in various rooms. I’m mostly looking forward to visit the Grimm room (116) with the new LS1 speakersystem in action, the updated/topmodel: LS1c. A session in the Auditorium by the TRPTK record label with Grimm LS1’s will also be very interesting. Have a nice day! From Grimm: October 5 and 6, Grimm Audio will exhibit again at the famous Dutch Audio Event in our home town Veldhoven. In the large demo room 116 Eelco Grimm and Guido Tent play the brand new LS1c model that so far has dropped the jaws of everyone who heard it. As source we use the MU1 for digital streams, but also the new PW1 phono stage that makes a wonderful match with the LS1c. Dutch distributor Music 2 supports us with a wonderful Feickert Volare turntable with Reed 1H arm and VandenHul cartridge. In the afternoon of both show dates, PW1 designer Peter van Willenswaard will give a presentation of the history and background of this unique design. Without doubt a must visit room! The MU2 can be heard in room 61 at our distributor Terrason Audio, who will play it on an active PMC system. Another MU2 can be heard at Daudio, room 14, and at McIntosh, room 65. Be prepared to find MU1s and MU2s in various other rooms too… On Saturday 11:30 and 13:00 in the Auditorium of the venue we present a very special cooperation with Dutch record label TRPTK. Sound Engineer Brendon Heinst will introduce a high end video recording project of the latest album ‘Viriditas’ of the Sibil•la Ensemble (check out the ‘behind the scenes’ story via our blog). TRPTK recently acquired five LS1 loudspeakers for their mix and mastering studio and this is the first album that was made on them. To come close to the sound Brendon heard, three LS1be’s will be used for the sound reinforcement of the video playback in the Auditorium. The presentation is opened with a live performance of the Sibil•la Ensemble and after the video Brendon will do a Q&A. So in one hour the audience will have a live concert, a high end video projection and a ‘behind the scenes’ presentation by the recording engineer. Don’t miss it!
  11. Total fanboy for Teddy Pardo…just ordered a second for my Roon Nucleus to replace an SBooster.
  12. The Giesemann KARMANN Server - HANDHARTILO Emperor Crown Limited Edition The summer order for Audiophile is ready to dispatch today. The order is made to order with NCF 15A IEC with 10M Master Clock inputs for sound optimisation: Giesemann Clock Sync Module is accepting 10M Master Clock for sound enhancement and bypass internal clock for all chipset on motherboard. This process involves very high skills and techniqe with high precision equipments for modifiction. This will be one of the signature Reference Grade Music Server in the market. When single 10M Master Clock sync with all components in the same music server, there will be synergy cascade effect, and the sounding will be much transparent and smooth. All USB 3.0 & 3.2 ports, including the thunderport type C USB. All Lan ports including 1.0G, 2.5G from Intel Chips and 10G from Marvell Chips Wifi 6E Chipset from Intel PCH southbridge Z790 Intel Chipset to generate all PCIe frequrency. The Audio Note grounding pole is direct connect to the best grounding point on motherboard for sound enhancements.
  13. Apologies….meant to say copper to the oMD then fibre to the ER. My ethernet system is a Netlink switch with SPF to the ER….both with LPS. Using the Amphenol cable between.
  14. Ubiquiti user interface, when I used it with Edge Router, seems much more friendly than Mikrotik. I noticed this CRS (Cloud Router Switch) under switches ... 100G https://mikrotik.com/product/crs504_4xq_in This one is a bit more costly but conveniently has DC input (36v though) but inconvenient;y in an outdoor enclosure (I wonder if it can be removed from the enclosure) https://mikrotik.com/product/crs504_4xq_out This one is 40G ... https://mikrotik.com/product/crs354_48g_4splus2qplusrm
  15. Hell no! I use the oMD and ER in proper orientation. The oMD is connected to my Silent Angel switch via copper, and to the ER via fiber, from the ER to my endpoint via copper. Perhaps I don't understand your system layout. What is your chain? Most of what I know about network audio is from UpTone Audio, and from personal exploration. @Superdad said the correct deployment of a DAC is from an isolated environment, as provided by the ER, to the endpoint.
  16. Don't see why those inputs have to be fed from an AVR. Why not use something like the Topping LA90 amp?
  17. Many thanks for your comments….but it just seems like that Lewis Carroll quote (badly paraphrased), it just gets curiouser and curiouser! so the oMD reversed with a copper Ethernet into the ER….currently have a Amphenol from my switch to the ER….so a Sonore in that pathway with another Pardo….surely we’re insane…. anyways, this adventure has been very musically rewarding. Thanks to all for your comments
  18. Yesterday
  19. Exactly, I am trying to know as much as possible about this prodcut and make sure it suits me before I buy it.
  20. Thanks. The MU2 is attractive to me because I only need to add the power amp or a pair of active speakers. However, for my future expansion, I may want to add a high-quality preamp in between to further improve the SQ of my system. Therefore, I want to make sure that the MU2 is also capable of this option. As you have said that, the MU2 is not able to bypass the built-in preamp. If I add a preamp to the MU2, there will be two preamps in the system and will this have negative effect on the the sound quality? Or do you simply suggest not using a separate preamp and sticking with the built-in one?
  21. I'll leave you two measurements here, they are quite different so I'll have to try more. Maybe you'll see some sense in it.
  22. Haven’t heard this album yet, but was fortunate to see Trifonov perform solo at the Ordway Theater in St. Paul the night before the pandemic era shutdown in Minnesota occurred. He is a brilliant performer. JCR
